FAVOURITE QUOTATIONS

"Rules like 'don't wear white after Labor Day' or 'shoes matching the handbag' are antiquated. Modern women should feel free to experiment."

HOUSEHOLD TIPS
Lemons

Harness the power of citrus to clean your microwave. Cut a lemon in half, squeeze juice into a small bowl of water, add both lemon halves and place in the microwave for five minutes. The fresh scent eliminates cooking odors, and condensation from the steam loosens random splatters that have hardened. Wipe away the loose stains
with a damp cloth.

Pine needles or pine scents will keep bugs away from your pet's bed.

Lavender works just as well. Bugs hate the smell. You can also keep bugs off you with a little lavender rubbed on yourself.
HAPPY LABOUR DAY/
LABOR DAY JUMPERS!

Labour Day (Canada)/Labor Day(USA) is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers throughout the world. In Canada and the United States, it is celebrated on the first Monday of September and considered the official end of the summer. It originates from the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest. An old fashioned tradition in Canada and the United States frowns upon the wearing of white after Labour Day. Some say the reason for this is that white is a summer colour and Labour Day unofficially marks the end of summer. These days the tradition is no longer applied for many Canadians and Americans as they feel it’s outdated and fashions have changed. Have a great day and enjoy the fireworks!

Poetry has always been a passion of mine and in my junior year of high school my English teacher gave me a book of poems from Robert Frost. He quickly became my favorite poet so that’s where rfrost comes from. As for the 1964, I’m giving my age away here... that’s the year I was born.

WIND AND THE WINDOW FLOWER

by Robert Frost

Lovers, forget your love,
And list to the love of these,
She a window flower,
And he a winter breeze.

When the frosty window veil
Was melted down at noon,
And the caged yellow bird
Hung over her in tune,

He marked her though the pane,
He could not help but mark,
And only passed her by
To come again at dark.

He was a winter wind,
Concerned with ice and snow,
Dead weeds and unmated birds,
And little of love could know.

But he signed upon the sill,
He gave the sash a shake,
As witness all within
Who lay that night awake.

Perchange he half prevailed
To win her for the flight
From the firelight looking-glass
And warm stove-window light.

But the flower leaned aside
And thought of naught to say,
And morning found the breeze
A hundred miles away.
