November 11th
Veterans Day/U.S. and Rememberence Day/Canada and U.K.is intended to honor and thank all military personnel who served in all wars, for both living veterans as well as those who gave their lives for us. Flags are hung at half- mast. A period of silence lasting two minutes is observed at 11am.
In 1938, Armistice Day, as it was then called, became an official U.S. National holiday. The 11th of November has been traditionally honored the world over ever since the first anniversary of peace following the war in 1919.
History tells us, that on that momentous day – at the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month – the guns did indeed fall silent for the first time in four years and four months. With that general armistice of hostilities, the First World War effectively drew to a conclusion. It had cost some 13 million lives, the greatest tragedy the world had yet seen, and it made a permanent mark on the generation that had experienced it.
The 11th of November has been traditionally honored the world over ever since the first anniversary of peace following the war in 1919

One theory is that the wheels of vehicles in heavy traffic on the day after Thanksgiving Day left many black markings on the road surface, leading to the term Black Friday.
The other theory is that the term Black Friday comes from an old way of recording business accounts. Losses were recorded in red ink and profits in black ink. Many businesses, particularly small businesses, started making profits prior to Christmas. Many hoped to start showing a profit, marked in black ink, on the day after
Thanksgiving Day.
World Diabetes Day
World Diabetes Day is held on November 14 each year. The day aims to increase an awareness of the effects of diabetes and its complications amongst the general population and professionals in a range of sectors. It is hoped that the increased awareness will lead to more resources to fight the causes of diabetes and help fund research into improved treatment options.

That means an extra hour of sleep!
Daylight saving came about as a way to utilize natural light and conserve fuel and energy.
The idea of daylight saving was first conceived by Benjamin Franklin in 1784.

The Story Behind the Remembrance Poppy
Also known as, “The Poppy Lady” this poem inspired the American teacher, Moina Belle Michael, to write a poem in response to “In Flanders Fields”. Her poem encouraged people to use the red Flanders poppy as a way of remembering those who had suffered in war, and how the Flanders Poppy became the symbol of remembrance that we know so well today.

It is coming up on that time of year again. Do you have problems with cold feet. Try sprinkling a bit of cayenne pepper in your shoes. Careful not too much or you will have hot feet. Not only does this work great but the only side effect is orange socks.

Just a quick note to everyone. First I would like to thank Crissi for believing in me enough to hand the league over to me. I don’t take the responsibility lightly
and hope that I can do even half as good a job as she did.
It’s an honor and I hope I do her and all of you proud.
Secondly, I will strive to continue the league as Crissi has always handled it, with love and never forgetting that this is for fun, that friends and family always come first. Lastly, I would like everyone to know that I am available and online most of the time. So if you ever have any suggestions, concerns or just need
some buxx please let me know.

RECIPE CORNER

This is a recipe for hot mustard that was served as a dipping sauce at a Chinese restaurant. It will make enough to pass out in small jars as gifts.
HOT MUSTARD
1 qt. of mustard, generic will do
6 oz. bottle Louisiana Hot Sauce
3 TB brown sugar
2 TB Cayenne pepper
I would suggest that you add about half a bottle of the hot sauce and taste and then adjust to your taste buds. Same applies to the cayenne pepper. The last batch I made was super hot.
