DECORATION TIPS

Glowing Eyes
Cut out  eyes  using an exacto knife in a toilet paper roll. Put in the glow sticks and  and hide them in your bushes, shrubs and trees, and watch as your glowing eyes terrorize the neighborhood.

Glass Jar Lights
Candles are one of the easiest ways to add a festive atmosphere to any home for just about any occasion. Round up a few jars and get creative with paint, tissue paper, decoupage, tape and permanent markers. You can easily make them to match your Halloween decor, and the kids will really enjoy making them with you!

5 WAYS TO REMOVE HALLOWEEN FACE PAINT

1. Vaseline: For years this has been the standby of High School theater students across the country. You should have a jar anyway from coating your exposed surfaces of your pumpkin (it helps it not shrivel up), so just reuse it here. Apply and wipe away immediately, no wait time!

2. Baby Wipes: Fold your baby wipe in half length wise and then in half again horizontally (so you have a small square). This will help keep it from tearing and give you a little more oomf when it comes to removing caked on Frankenstein face. It might require a few, but it you're not one for lotions or potions most of us will have baby wipes on hand!

3. Makeup Remover: Even if you don't use makeup remover everyday (most of us are lucky if we actually get to put it on in the first place), we usually have a bottle of it floating around under your bathroom sink. This is a great way to use it up and if you have one that's sensitive on eyes — even better!

4. Baby Oil: Using a cotton ball, dip and swipe the baby oil across your child's face. You'll need to rewash when finished if there's an excessive amount of oil still left, though usually a few clean cotton balls will do the trick.

5. Baby Lotion: Regular adult lotion can work as well, but there's so many different types of lotion out there, we don't have any need to reduce cellulite on our kids faces or likewise leave them with a golden glow (or smelling like cinnamon buns or cucumber melon).

HELPFUL TIPS FOR HANDLING HALLOWEEN TREATS

• Know how much candy your child has collected and store it somewhere other than the child's room. Having it so handy can be an irresistible temptation for many kids.

• Consider being somewhat lenient about candy eating on Halloween, within reason, and talk about how the rest of the candy will be handled. Candy and snacks shouldn't get in the way of kids eating healthy meals.

• Be a role model by eating Halloween candy in moderation yourself. To help avoid temptation, buy your candy at the last minute and get rid of any leftovers.

• Encourage your kids to be mindful of the amount of candy and snacks eaten — and to stop before they feel
full or sick.

You also can offer some alternatives to candy to the trick-or-treaters who come to your door.

Here are some treats you
might give out:

• non-food treats, like stickers, toys, temporary tattoos, false teeth, little bottles of bubbles and small games, like tiny decks of cards (party-supply stores can be great sources for these)

• snacks such as small bags of pretzels, sugar-free gum, trail mix, small boxes of raisins,
and popcorn

• sugar-free candy

• small boxes of cereal

Steer clear of any snacks or toys  like small plastic objects that could pose choking hazards to very
young children.

DID YOU KNOW?

The tradition of carving jack-o’-lanterns originated in Ireland,
but they used turnips and beets instead of pumpkins!

If you see a spider on Halloween night, it is thought to be the spirit of a loved one watching over you.  Pumpkins are known for their orange hue, but did you know the gourd can be found in many different colors? It’s not uncommon to see white, red, green, yellow and even blue pumpkins!

The GIAOUR
[Unquenched, unquenchable]

George Gordon Byron, 1788 - 1824

. . . Unquenched, unquenchable,
Around, within, thy heart shall dwell;
Nor ear can hear nor tongue can tell
The tortures of that inward hell!
But first, on earth as vampire sent,
Thy corse shall from its tomb be rent:
Then ghastly haunt thy native place,
And suck the blood of all thy race;
There from thy daughter, sister, wife,
At midnight drain the stream of life;
Yet loathe the banquet which perforce
Must feed thy livid living corse:
Thy victims ere they yet expire
Shall know the demon for their sire,
As cursing thee, thou cursing them,
Thy flowers are withered on the stem.
But one that for thy crime must fall,
The youngest, most beloved of all,
Shall bless thee with a father’s name —
That word shall wrap thy heart in flame!
Yet must thou end thy task, and mark
Her cheek’s last tinge, her eye’s last spark,
And the last glassy glance must view
Which freezes o’er its lifeless blue;
Then with unhallowed hand shalt tear
The tresses of her yellow hair,
Of which in life a lock when shorn
Affection’s fondest pledge was worn,
But now is borne away by thee,
Memorial of thine agony!

RECIPE CORNER
PUMPKIN SATIN CHEESECAKE

These Pumpkin Satin Cheesecakes can be made up to 2 weeks ahead and frozen until serving. They're guiltfree, too -- each serving has fewer than 6 grams of fat and only 142 calories.

Ingredients:
1 8-ounce package fat-free cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons plus 1 cup skim milk
2 tablespoons sugar
1 8-ounce container frozen Cool Whip at refrigerator temperature
2 6-ounce prepared graham cracker piecrusts (or, if preferred, 2 homemade cracker crusts)
1 15-ounce can pumpkin puree
2 3.4 ounce packages vanilla instant pudding mix
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Garnish: whipped topping,
graham cracker crumbs

INSTRUCTIONS
Remove plastic lids from pie crusts and set aside. In a medium bowl, mix cream cheese, 2 tablespoons skim milk, and sugar with an electric mixer until creamy. Whisk in Cool Whip Free. Divide the cream cheese/whipped toping mixture between the 2 piecrusts. In another medium bowl, combine pumpkin, 1 cup milk, pudding mix, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Layer ech pie with half the pumpkin mixture. Cover with inverted piecrust lids and refrigerate at least 4 hours, or freeze. If you freeze pies, thaw the whole pie in the refrigerator for an hour before serving.

WHERE DID YOU GET
THAT NAME?

TRUKMULE

I got the name with my first
Yahoo account.

I had just bought my first truck which was a 98 Ford Ranger.

And my nickname from my supervisor in the navy at that time was mule because I did all the
heavy lifting.

HOME REMEDIES

Ginger is a long-time helper for stomach ailments of all types -- particularly nausea and gas. Ginger helps food flow smoothly through the digestive tract, allowing the body to better absorb nutrients. Drink a cup of ginger tea to get your stomach back on track. To make your own ginger tea: Add 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger to a cup of hot water, let stand for up to three minutes, strain
and drink away.
